PURE Youth Companies

(for Title 1 Schools)

PURE Theatre’s education program provides 32 weeks of hands-on theatre instruction for students through consistent participation in theatre exercises, auditioning, rehearsals, and performance opportunities. Each semester, students meet twice per week for 16 weeks, to learn the art and craft of acting while rehearsing a play. The class culminates with students participating in a live performance at PURE Theatre in the Cannon Street Arts Center, for family, friends, teachers, and invited guests. Each performance is simulcast live for family and friends who cannot attend in person. Additionally, each semester students will attend a live performance of a play outside of school. Contact info@puretheatre.org for more information.

Shakespeare’s Truth to Power

PURE Theatre is thrilled to offer a sixty-minute live play exploring the theme of power and the lengths people go to get it, keep it, and stand up to it.

Told through the staging of multiple scenes and monologues by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Truth to Power is a dynamic, exciting, and provocative exploration of the ways in which we all use and often abuse our power. A sampling of plays included: Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Julius Caesar, Richard III, and As You Like It.

We will bring this production to you to accommodate your classroom schedule. The play can be performed in an auditorium or large gathering room and does not require special equipment. The play does require access to electricity. Contact info@puretheatre.org for more information.

Community Engagement

Theatre is better when we do it together, which is why we at PURE are engaged with community partners and organizations that help elevate both our work and our audiences. If you are interested in joining us as a community partner or bringing a group to see our show please email info@puretheatre.org – we’d love to have you join us!

SUMMER YOUTH THEATER INTENSIVE

PRESENTED BY THE CHARLESTON GAILLARD CENTER’S EDUCATION & COMMUNITY PROGRAM AND PURE THEATRE

Classes will focus on critical (and also fun to learn) performance skills: vocalization, characterization, motivations, movement, blocking and staging, and some cool conversations with the designers and technicians who make it all happen behind the scenes and backstage. We will even throw in a few theater games. Classes will be held off-site from the Gaillard Center at Cannon Street Arts Center, the home of PURE Theatre, and students will have the exceptional opportunity to perform for their family, friends, and the Charleston community on the stage of the Martha and John M. Rivers Performance Hall for their debut on July 19 at 6pm.
