Seniors & Seniors

Both groups of seniors will be bussed to the Cannon Street Arts Center to watch one Wednesday matinee per PURE production. PURE will provide attendees with lunch before each show. After watching the production, participants will be able to directly converse with an artist associated with the show at a post-show “talk-back.” Sitting together in PURE’s intimate theatre space to experience the joy of live performance, coupled with the opportunity to share a meal and a conversation about the artform fosters mutual understanding and respect between these two cohorts.

Shakespeare’s Truth to Power

PURE Theatre is thrilled to offer a sixty-minute live play exploring the theme of power and the lengths people go to get it, keep it, and stand up to it.

Told through the staging of multiple scenes and monologues by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Truth to Power is a dynamic, exciting, and provocative exploration of the ways in which we all use and often abuse our power. A sampling of plays included: Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Julius Caesar, Richard III, and As You Like It.

We will bring this production to you to accommodate your classroom schedule. The play can be performed in an auditorium or large gathering room and does not require special equipment. The play does require access to electricity. Contact info@puretheatre.org for more information.

Community Engagement

Theatre is better when we do it together, which is why we at PURE are engaged with community partners and organizations that help elevate both our work and our audiences. If you are interested in joining us as a community partner or bringing a group to see our show please email info@puretheatre.org – we’d love to have you join us!

Youth Company in Partnership with the Gaillard

PURE Theatre’s Youth Company program provides 3 weeks of hands-on, extensive theatre instruction for students through consistent participation in theatre exercises, auditioning, rehearsals, and performance opportunities. Students meet daily for 3 weeks to learn the art and craft of acting while rehearsing a play. The class culminates in a performance in the world-class Gaillard Center, for family, friends, teachers, and invited guests. Contact info@puretheatre.org for more information.

SUMMER YOUTH THEATRE INTENSIVE

PRESENTED BY THE CHARLESTON GAILLARD CENTER’S EDUCATION & COMMUNITY PROGRAM AND PURE THEATRE

Classes focus on critical (and also fun to learn) performance skills: vocalization, characterization, motivations, movement, blocking and staging, and some cool conversations with the designers and technicians who make it all happen behind the scenes and backstage. Classes are held off-site from the Gaillard Center at Cannon Street Arts Center, the home of PURE Theatre, and students have the exceptional opportunity to perform for their family, friends, and the Charleston community on the stage of the Martha and John M. Rivers Performance Hall. This project is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
