Directed by Rodney Lee Rogers
“Clybourne Park has one of the biggest sets and largest casts of any production PURE has staged. It′s also one of, if not the, best play[s] they’ve done in recent memory—and that′s saying a lot. . . . The entire cast, which is made up almost entirely of PURE Core Members, is outstanding . . . both poetic and extremely realistic at the same time, which is a rare combination. The play is also funny as hell. . . . If you only see one play at PURE this season . . . make this one it.”

“As beautifully constructed as it is eloquent” —The New Yorker
In 1959, Russ and Bev are selling their desirable two-bed for a knock-down price, enabling the first black community to move into the neighborhood, and alarming the cozy white urbanities of Clybourne Park, Chicago. In 2009, the same property is being bought by Lindsey and Steve, a young white couple whose plan to raze the house and start again is met with a similar response. As the arguments, rage, and tensions rise, ghosts and racial resentments are once more uncovered. Bruce Norris’s acerbically brilliant new play Clybourne Park is an intensely topical satire that explores the fault line between race and property.
