With the closing of one year and the beginning of another, I think it would be challenging to find a person who hasn’t at least given some consideration to where they’ve been and where they would like to go. I think about it all the time, new year or not. And not just personally, but also on behalf of PURE.
I keep thinking about PURE’s purpose . . . why we exist. I’m always trying to distill the purpose down to something simple yet accurate, trying to understand what it means to be this company, in this time and place, amidst this ambient noise, in this distracted world.
I came across an old poster for a fundraiser that happened in our theatre this past fall called Rock for Jude. It was a benefit for Jude Chauvin’s family and the American Cancer Society, in the wake of Jude’s death from a rare form of brain cancer. Jude was not yet seven months old.
I think that if PURE’s purpose here is never more complex than to matter where we can, when we can, and to whom we can, then we have truly accomplished something extraordinary. I think that perhaps the simplicity of mattering is a great and even noble pursuit, with the ability to affect lives, in all of the small ways that we can, one person at a time.
