Youth Company

PURE Youth Company is an after school program where students work with PURE’s professional staff of Teaching Artists to rehearse and produce a full production.

How it works

  • The program runs for seven weeks, Monday through Friday after school.
  • Teaching Artists from PURE will travel to each school to lead rehearsals and theatre activities for a holistic arts experience.
  • Teachers from each school can join the process as an Educator to learn art-integration techniques in their own classrooms. This position is paid and may contribute to Continuing Education Credit.

If you are a school, teacher, or student looking to bring a Youth Company to your school, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Seniors + Seniors

PURE’s Seniors + Seniors program brings together senior citizens and high school seniors in a unique intergenerational theatre experience. Participants enjoy an afternoon of theatre and discussion, fostering community, creativity, and mutual respect.

Summer Camps

Our summer camps offer an immersive theatre experience for students. Over the course of the camp, participants will engage in acting, scriptwriting, and stagecraft, culminating in a final performance. It’s a perfect way to spend the summer, making new friends and exploring the world of theatre.

June  – July

In partnership with the Gaillard Center’s Education & Community program, students ages 13 – 18 of all skill levels are invited to study with Core Ensemble member Michael Smallwood in a three-week performance intensive. The group of 20 actors will be cast in, study, rehearse, and perform a full production of PETER AND THE STARCATCHER.

Classes will focus on critical (and also fun to learn) performance skills: vocalization, characterization, motivations, movement, blocking and staging, and conversations with the designers and technicians who make it all happen behind the scenes and backstage. We will even throw in a few theater games. Classes will be held off-site from the Gaillard Center at Cannon Street Arts Center, the home of PURE Theatre, and students will have the exceptional opportunity to perform for their family, friends, and the Charleston community on the stage of the Martha & John M. Rivers Performance Hall at the Gaillard Center.

Scholarships are available.
